About the role
With a career at The Home Depot, you can be yourself and also be part of something bigger.
Position Purpose:
Serve as the subject-matter specialist for Rental vehicle and truck recovery, protecting Home Depot Rental assets by identifying, vetting, and driving the recovery of stolen, converted, and slow-rent vehicles. Analyze GPS, claim, and system data to determine asset status and recovery priority; manage NCIC and Legal Lock processes in partnership with Law Enforcement, Legal, and the Vehicles team; coordinate third-party recovery vendors to return assets to stores and revenue faster. Execute a structured daily and weekly recovery cadence, maintain data integrity across recovery and asset systems, and communicate status, issues, and roadblocks to leadership and cross-functional partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- NCIC Monitoring, Clearing & Legal Lock: Conduct daily NCIC reviews to identify NCIC-active vehicles and initiate Legal Lock with the Vehicles team. Own the NCIC clearing process—review the Legal Lock dashboard weekly, partner with law enforcement to clear recovered assets, and complete transfers and status updates in the asset management system.
- Slow Rent Vetting & Recovery Dispatch: Vet the weekly Slow Rent report using GPS data and claim notes to confirm asset location and status; upload validated units to third-party recovery vendors and follow up on dispatched units.
- Recovery Vendor Management & Billing: Manage vendor partnerships, pull truck rental contracts to support assignments, and submit and reconcile weekly recovery billing for accuracy and cost control.
- Recovery Validation & System Status: Vet recovered units and confirm recovery details (VIN, location, condition, date); partner with IT to check units in and move them to Out on Repair so assets return to revenue quickly.
- Large Equipment Recovery Support: Assist with large equipment recoveries as needed, partnering with stores, Asset Protection, law enforcement, and vendors to locate, secure, and return high-value equipment.
- Fleet Partner Coordination: Review fleet leasing partner reports, update vehicle NCIC status, and keep records aligned with fleet leasing, Fleet, and Tool Rental partners.
- Asset Protection Case Follow-Up: Work Asset Protection case follow-ups; partner with Asset Protection, ORC, and Legal to support investigations, police reporting, and prosecution of stolen and converted assets.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as primary point of contact for Legal, ORC, law enforcement, Tool Rental, fleet leasing partners, stores, and vendors; respond to urgent recovery, NCIC, and Legal Lock requests with urgency and discretion.
- Reporting & Process Improvement: Close out weekly follow-ups and complete the Recovery Team recap. Identify theft, conversion, and slow-rent trends; execute core operations projects and process improvements that reduce shrink and increase speed to recovery; facilitate workout problem-solving sessions.
- Data Integrity & Analysis: Analyze and interpret GPS, claim, and system data to identify discrepancies and prioritize recoveries. Perform cost/benefit analysis and provide data to Recovery Manager to support decision making; communicate issues and roadblocks and escalate high-risk assets.
- Strategic Thinking & Recommendations: See the big picture, determine the problem and its fundamental parts, synthesize findings, and make oral and written recommendations to upper management. Execute day-to-day processes for areas of responsibility.
