About the role
We are driven to do more. More for our customers and the financial professionals who offer our products. If you are driven to do more and love the challenge of pursuing more, Athene is your kind of company. You will find we offer more than the basics to create an inclusive and dynamic work environment at our various locations.
Purpose & Impact:
Help shape Athene’s founding engineering team in Austin and the technology platform that transforms how annuity and retirement products are distributed and managed. As Product Analyst, you will connect strategy with engineering execution: evaluate partner platforms and integration options, analyze data and system capabilities, translate approved priorities into well-defined requirements, and equip Athene and Apollo leadership with technically grounded recommendations.Reporting to the SVP, Technology, you will work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Distribution, Actuarial and partner organizations to answer: What should we build, how should it fit together, and why now? This is an opportunity to influence a new platform with executive sponsorship, combining Athene’s scale and Apollo partnership with a culture of innovation, ownership and our BEAM values.
Key Deliverables:
- Evaluate platforms, partners and integration options. Assess partner APIs, distribution platforms, data providers and technology vendors against functional, technical and commercial criteria. Maintain capability comparisons, identify integration gaps and recommend build, buy or partner paths with clear evidence and assumptions.
- Own the product roadmap and backlog. Translate strategic priorities into clear problem statements, requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria. Partner with the engineering lead to prioritize delivery, resolve technical and business trade-offs, and keep development aligned with platform objectives.
- Lead technical discovery. Facilitate discovery with business, engineering and partner teams. Map current-state systems, data flows and transaction paths; define target-state workflows; document decisions and coordinate dependencies with West Des Moines teams and external partners.
- Build the data and measurement foundation. Assess whether available data, data models and partner capabilities support intended products and transactions. Define platform metrics and instrumentation that show delivery progress, adoption and business impact.
- Equip leaders to make informed decisions. Size opportunities, develop business cases and create executive presentations and decision memos that clearly explain options, trade-offs, risks and expected outcomes, grounded in technical reality.
- Use AI to improve product and analytical work. Apply AI tools to research, analysis, prototyping and drafting, validating sources, calculations and conclusions. Share effective workflows that improve speed and quality while protecting confidential information.
What You Need to Bring:
- 3+ years of technical product analysis, product management, systems analysis or relevant professional experience in a software or financial technology environment, preferred.
- Working fluency with APIs, data models, integration patterns and modern platform architecture, with the ability to read technical documentation, participate credibly in design discussions and evaluate partner systems.
- Experience partnering with software engineering teams as a product owner, product analyst, business analyst or similar contributor, including writing requirements and acceptance criteria, refining backlogs and making priority trade-offs.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to structure ambiguous questions, evaluate evidence, size opportunities and build defensible business cases. Experience with SQL, data analysis or quantitative modeling is preferred.
- Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication, with experience translating technical analysis into recommendations for senior leaders and responding thoughtfully to challenge.
- Fluency with AI tools for research, analysis and prototyping, supported by sound judgment and disciplined verification. Bring curiosity, adaptability, critical thinking and a bias for action. Knowledge of annuities, retirement products, wealth management platforms or registered investment adviser distribution is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, Finance or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. A relevant graduate degree is preferred.
