This role serves as a critical liaison between business stakeholders, engineering teams, application owners, and data consumers by analyzing how data moves from databases through backend services, middleware components, APIs, and into consuming front-end applications.  This individual will work closely with development teams, stakeholders, technology leads, and agile teams to ensure successful delivery of program milestones and adherence of the deliverables to the product roadmaps. Your problem solving and technical skills along with ability to synthesize findings, developing practical and realistic recommendations, and communicate results will help you excel at this position.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical analysis skills, extensive SQL expertise, and the ability to quickly understand system architectures, data models, integrations, and dependencies. This individual will play a key role in documenting application ecosystems, supporting modernization initiatives, troubleshooting production issues, and providing insights into data lineage and system behavior.

Key Responsibilities:

System and Data Flow Analysis:

  • Analyze and document end-to-end data flows across databases, backend services, middleware platforms, APIs, and user-facing applications.
  • Develop and maintain current-state and future-state system architecture diagrams, process flows, and data lineage documentation.
  • Identify system dependencies, integration points, data transformations, and downstream impacts of changes.
  • Partner with development teams to understand application architectures and integration designs.
  • Document business and technical requirements related to system interfaces and data exchanges.

Data Analysis and SQL Development:

  • Write complex SQL queries to extract, validate, analyze, and troubleshoot data across multiple databases.
  • Perform data mining and root cause analysis to investigate production incidents, data discrepancies, and system issues.
  • Analyze data quality, completeness, and accuracy across integrated systems.
  • Validate data movement between source systems and consuming applications.
  • Support reconciliation efforts by comparing and tracing data across multiple platforms.

Application and Integration Support:

  • Collaborate with software engineers, solution architects, product teams, and business stakeholders to understand system functionality and technical requirements.
  • Analyze REST APIs, service interactions, message flows, and integration patterns.
  • Assist in impact assessments for enhancements, upgrades, and application modernization initiatives.
  • Support testing efforts by defining test scenarios and validating expected data outcomes.
  • Participate in troubleshooting efforts related to application integrations and data issues.

Documentation and Process Improvement:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including:
    • Data flow diagrams
    • Interface specifications
    • System dependency maps
    • Data dictionaries
    • Process workflows
    • Application inventories
  • Establish standards for documenting system interactions and data lineage.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data transparency, operational efficiency, and system observability.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 plus years of experience as a Systems Analyst, Technical Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or related role.
  • Strong expertise in SQL with demonstrated ability to write complex queries, joins, aggregations, subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and performance analysis.
  • Experience analyzing relational database structures and data models.
  • Proven ability to document complex system architectures and data flows.
  • Experience working with multi-tier application environments, including:
    • Databases
    • Backend services
    • Middleware/integration layers

  • Knowledge of microservices and service-oriented architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with data lineage, metadata management, and enterprise architecture concepts.
  • Experience with diagramming and documentation tools such as Visio, Draw.io, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Exposure to ETL processes and data integration technologies.
  • Experience supporting Agile development teams.
  • Understanding of application logging, monitoring, and observability tools.

Technical Skills

Required:

  • SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases
  • Advanced SQL querying and data analysis
  • System integration analysis
  • Data mapping and data lineage
  • REST APIs and web services
  • Technical documentation and process modeling

Preferred:
